When considering your odds of winning a Mark Award, please consider that the size of your company in no way reduces your chances of competing with the big cable companies – or even corporate marketing. Small companies, regions and divisions are often winners. In fact, the Top of the Mark award has gone to campaigns developed “in the field” three times! So get your entries in by 6 pm ET on March 24 and remember, you can’t win if you don’t play.

2008 Mark Awards Winners Loop DVD Available for FREE!

For the first time ever, we have DVDs of the winning videos from 2008 (spots submitted as part of campaigns not included) available for free. All you have to do is email your request for a free DVD to Denise Motlagh and please don’t forget to include your mailing address.

New Judging Dates

The preliminary round of judging will take place on June 9-10 in Arlington, VA, with the final round on July 22-23 in NYC.

Preliminary Round Criteria:

- Minimum of three years cable marketing experience

- Professional experience at the level of Director or equivalent (Managers may qualify, depending on job responsibilities and industry tenure)

Final Round Criteria:

- Minimum of five years cable marketing experience

- Professional experience at the VP level or higher (Final round judges serve by invitation only, however interested and qualified executives are encouraged to inquire)

New Categories and Media

Every year the categories and media are tweaked to accurately reflect the current state of cable marketing — and 2009 is no different. Based on annual trends, entry numbers and winners, the Mark Awards operations committee made the following changes.

What Was Eliminated?

Technology and Trade Service Companies Division

What Was Added or Changed?

In Distributors Division:

Added Competitive Marketing

Added Customer Relations Marketing

Collaborative Marketing is a separate category and added Partnership Marketing

In Networks and Content Providers Division:

Under Affiliate Marketing added Events and Trade Show Booths as a medium

Multicultural or Alternative Audience Development replaced Minority and Multicultural Audience Development

Collaborative Marketing replaced by two new categories: Partnership with Affiliates; Partnership with Outside Organizations

Under Program Promotion and Tune-In media definitions have been altered — check carefully!

Under Program Promotion and Tune-In added Guerilla Marketing as a separate medium

Under Program Promotion and Tune-In, Online Media separated into three: Online Ads; Web Site & Microsite; Any Other Digital Medium

Digital Media Promotion now Promotion of Non-Linear Products

Special Note

New rule for Wild Card entries: Must include a sentence in the “Situation Analysis” to justify why the work was submitted in Wild Card and doesn’t fit another category.

2009 Official Launch & Entry Deadlines!

It’s time to start thinking about your 2009 Mark Awards entries so here’s the skinny… The online entry form will be available by February 18 at www.markawards.com. Entries must consist of marketing and advertising materials first used between February 1, 2008 and February 28, 2009. CTAM must receive your entries by 6 pm ET on March 24. Late entries will be accepted through April 7 at 6 pm ET.

The 2009 entry fees:

$300 for each entry received before March 24, 2009
$375 for each entry received from March 25 to April 7, 2009
